Nails for the week

This week I decided to go for a darker glitter accent nail on my ring finger again. As glitter is not the easiest to get off I tend to only wear it on one finger. So this week is Models own Pink Punch, Barry M Indigo (NP 312) and Sally Hansen Blingtastic. As usual I finished off with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Top coat. I found the Sally Hansen glitter polish chipped after a day of wear whereas the models own glitter polish I wore last week lasted until I took it off. As the Sally Hansen polishes are more expensive I don’t think they are worth the extra. I would definitely recommend models own glitter polish though. Sorry for the tape in the picture, fingers were misbehaving and kept dislocating.

Hair straightener heaven

I’ve been wanting some new straighteners for about a year now but always managed to talk myself out of it telling myself I had more important things to spend my money on. I really wanted some GHDs but didn’t have that kind of money lying around. When I started chatting to friends about it I found quite a few people were critical of the GHDs and said they weren’t worth the money.

A friend then recommended Remington to me. She said when her GHDs had broken she had replaced them with the Remington straighteners and preferred them. I was worried about the price as I’d seen them for around £80 however when I checked out Amazon I was pleasantly surprised as they were down from £80ish to £40. This was the push I needed to finally treat myself to a pair of straighteners that didn’t pull out my hair.

I can honestly say these are the best straighteners I have ever had and I am really fussy. My hairdresser uses GHDs but I think I prefer my Remington and especially at the price I got them.

I went for the Remington S9500 Pearl Hair Straightener (amazon link). I have really thick hair so I need the hotter temperature. They don’t take very long to heat up & beep to let you know when they have reached temperature. There is a temperature control so you don’t have to fry your hair every time. I find that once I have straightened my hair with these it lasts until I wash it again. My hair also feels smoother & looks shinier after using these instead of fried and frizzy.

They aren’t too stiff so my hand only gets mildly sore whilst using but it would be a miracle if I didn’t get some pain whilst doing anything with my thick mane. You have to be careful not to let your hand get to far up the handle because it gets quite hot near the plates but there is plenty of room for your hand on the handle.

Bonus points they also look good in black and cream with a pretty flower design and come with a heat proof pouch and mat.

I have never loved a pair of hair straighteners as much as these. I don’t put off straightening my hair any more and I love the outcome.  I would highly recommend these. In fact my mum tried out mine and I had to get her some for her birthday to stop her stealing mine and my mum hates straightening her hair so they must be good.

What’s in your handbag?

Money Supermarket are running a competition to win a Mulberry Bayswater shoulder handbag, purse and phone case & 6 runners up can win a £25 ASOS voucher by posting about the contents of your handbag and what the estimated cost of our bag & its contents is. Its been interesting reading other peoples posts to see what us ladies carry around with us every day. So here’s what I carry around with me:

IMG_0963

IMG_0960

Bag £30: I change bags quite often but this is the bag I use most. I like satchels because they are quite big but they don’t swallow everything so you can still find what you need. This bag is from River Island. I’m such a sucker for their bags.

Bottle of water £0.60: I always have a bottle of water with me because I’m constantly thirsty and need to take meds.

So…? Sinful perfume £10.49 (50ml): I always carry something smelly around with me to top up scent throughout the day.

4head stick £4.95: This stick is amazing for relieving a headache when it hits. I always make sure I have one of these on me. I love it.

Prescription Painkillers Free: I always have a bag full of painkillers & other medication for my condition and because I live in Wales my prescriptions are free.

Ring Splint Free: The weird looking plastic thing is my ring splint for my fingers. I carry one around with me in case I need to write and it keeps my finger from hyper-extending or dislocating when I hold a pen. I got it from my Occupational Therapist.

Micropore Tape £2.50: I have to carry a roll of micropore tape with me because I use it to tape up my fingers to keep them in place after I dislocate them.

Extra Chewing gum £0.65: I always have a pack of chewing gum on me because its helpful when nausea hits, plus minty fresh breath

Polos £0.65: I always have polos on me for the same reason as the chewing gum except if my jaw is playing up polos don’t need chewing.

Purse £50: I’m not entirely sure of the price if my purse as it was a gift from my parents. Well kind of. My dad bought it for my mum & she didn’t like it so he gave it to me instead. I’ll take what I can get, although I desperately want a new purse. Its a leather purse from John Lewis.

HTC Sensation XL £400, case £5.00: My phone goes everywhere with me. Had to get the case because I dropped my old one and smashed my screen.

Rimmel London Match Perfection Cream Compact Foundation £7.49: This lives in my handbag. I use it to touch up my foundation throughout the day.

Cherry Chapstick £1.09: My lips are always chapped so I carry lip balm everywhere with me

Bourjois Color Boost Lip Crayon £7.99: I always carry at least one lipstick with me. I love the colour of this for everyday. Its also moisturising so it works as a lip balm too.

Maybelline Color Sensational Vivid Fuschia flash £7.19: This was the colour I was wearing when I last went out and haven’t got round to taking it out my bag yet. I always take whatever colour I’m wearing out with me for touching up. I usually end up with about 6 lipsticks in my back and wondering where they all are.

Comb £0.99: Have to carry a comb with you for hair emergencies.

Emery board £0.10: For nail emergencies. No body wants a sharp edge which I end up laddering my tights on.

Sunglasses £15: I never go anywhere without my sunglasses. I have really sensitive eyes so I wear them even when people have headlights on. I have about 6 pairs so I always swap and change but these are my favourite at the moment. Also from River Island.

Kindle Touch £70, case £20: I love my kindle because it fits in my handbag and if I have a long wait at hospital appointments or picking my brother up from school then I can catch up on my reading.

iPod Classic 160gb £170, headphones £6.99: I take my iPod with me everywhere. Never leave the house without it. I have definitely had my moneys worth out of it. I can’t go a day without listening to music.

Total: £811.58 or on days when I take my iPad with me £1080.58.

I’m quite surprised. I never expected the contents of my bag to add up to that amount. The moneysupermarket site does say though that the average cost of a handbag and its contents is £850.

So what’s in your handbag?

 IMG_0952

I quite like this foundation. I must admit I still prefer the MaxFactor 3 in 1 but this one is still pretty good and slightly cheaper as well. The anti-fatigue effect does actually work and having a chronic illness means that an anti-fatigue effect is needed. After applying this I do have a healthy glow & look awake. It covers blemishes & red blotches. Its even quite good at covering under eye bags with only a little bit of extra concealer needed some days. It lasts all day even without a primer and a little bit goes a long way.

The downside to this foundation is I wouldn’t say it is exactly light. It is quite a thick consistency. After it has been on for a bit it doesn’t feel thick but going on it is quite heavy, however once its on & settled you do feel like you aren’t wearing anything. I would also say that this is not a foundation for the paler skin tones. With only 6 available shades it can be tricky to find the right match.

All in all I do like this foundation and I do use it quite often but I tend to use it more in the summer when I have slightly darker skin.

Nails for the week

So its Sunday again. This week has flown by. This week the majority of my nails were Barry M Shocking Pink. I love this colour, its so fun & bright. I then did an accent nail in Barry M vivid purple. I like this colour but its too dark to do on every nail in summer. I then put a coat of Models Own Juicy Jules over the top of the vivid purple because you can never have too much glitter. I then finished it off with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Top Coat.

Okay so all my fellow chronic illness fighters knows the battle that is washing your hair. Some days there is no spare energy for that but we still want fabulous looking hair. We deserve fabulous looking hair all the crap we put up with.

The answer is obviously dry shampoo. I’ve tried Superdrugs own brand and found it was really cakey and made my hair look worse. I love batiste. I know its the more expensive one but its till only £4.99 at the most and to me not having to exhaust myself washing my hair is worth every penny. It smells awesome and it makes my hair feel & look great. I love the “seductive & elegant lace” one. Don’t ask me how your hair can have a seductive & elegant fragrance but it does smell really good.

This product is my go to on days when a shower just isn’t going to happen. All that needs to be done is spray it onto hair, massage it in and then run a brush through it and ta-da you don’t look like you’ve been in too much pain to wash your hair for a week. Magic.

I have also tried Girlz Only Dry Shampoo and that stuff is also amazing and also cheaper than batiste. I love the scent of the Hazy days one. There is no need to spend the extra money for batiste as this dry shampoo is just as good.

Everyone should have a can of dry shampoo. Life is so much easier.

This mascara is pretty much the love of my life. I have spent a fortune on mascaras, thinking I’ve found one that I like but changing my mind a few weeks later. I can happily say that I have tested this one for about 3 months now making sure I was definitely happy with it and I can say it is love. I have also talked 3 friends into buying it and they also say that this is the one for them.

The main problem I find with mascara is flaking. My eye balls seem to attract flakes of mascara. I always end up with flakes in my eyes after a few hours of wearing. Well I used to. Not any more. This mascara doesn’t flake. Also, you know when you are wearing mascara and your lashes feel really hard, well not with this one. My eyelashes feel like naked eyelashes but they look fuller & longer.

I am also very fussy about clumping mascara. I  hate clumps in  my lashes. No matter how much of a rush I’m in, how badly I put this mascara on I have not ended up with a clump yet. I have put this mascara on in the car, when I’m half asleep, when I have shaky hands, when I feel terrible & it looks good every time. It also doesn’t clump when you put on multiple layers.

I love the maybelline mascaras because their tubes are chunky enough that I can get a good enough grip to open them and the shape of the handle on the wand makes it easy for my dodgy hands to hold & apply without cramping, spasming etc.

I would definitely say it is worth the price & a tube does last but also maybelline are really good at doing awesome deals like 3 for 2 etc.

I love this mascara because it makes my lashes look amazing, long and full but it manages to do this without making it look like I have mascara on. The only conclusion I can come to is that this is magic in a tube.
